Xi marks Martyrs' Day with tribute to fallen heroes
President Xi Jinping and other Communist Party and state leaders on Wednesday paid tribute to fallen national heroes at a ceremony in Beijing to mark Martyrs' Day. Attendees sang the national anthem, followed by a moment of silence in tribute to those who have sacrificed their lives for the Chinese people and the country. Flower baskets were placed at the base of the Monument to the People's Heroes in Tiananmen Square. Xi and other leaders walked up to the monument, where he straightened the ribbons on the baskets. Other leaders in attendance include Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi and Han Zheng. They joined representatives from a variety of other sectors.
