The Shenzhen Bay control point will extend its opening hours on Friday and Saturday to help facilitate cross-boundary traffic. Clearance time at the crossing will be extended to 2am from midnight, as the number of travellers is expected to surge due to a series of events staged in Hong Kong including Halloween festivities, the Wine and Dine Festival and mega concerts. The government said on Thursday that it reached a consensus with Shenzhen authorities for the arrangement, so as to alleviate the expected surge in passenger and vehicular flows at the round-the-clock Huanggang port and San Tin Highway. SAR authorities have also coordinated with cross-boundary coach operators to extend their service hours serving Shenzhen Bay. Franchised bus operators, for their part, will arrange two special overnight bus routes to ply between the port and Yuen Long/Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun respectively. “The implementation of the special arrangement to extend the clearance hours at the Shenzhen Bay Control Point helps divert late-night cross-boundary passenger and vehicular flows and facilitates travel for residents of both places and visitors,” a government spokesman said.
