Hong Kong's premier nightlife and party district Lan Kwai Fong is expecting business to jump about 50 percent this Halloween. Turnover is already up at least 30 to 40 percent over the past two weekends, according to Anthea Cheung, Lan Kwai Fong Association director. She credited this growth to the Tourism Board's inaugural Hong Kong Halloween Month, which generated significant festive buzz ahead of this weekend's finale and attracted higher-than-expected interest. Cheung said locals still made up around 70 percent of visitors to the district around which Halloween celebrations traditionally centre, with the rest coming from overseas and the mainland. The number of arrivals from the Greater Bay Area have spiked with cross-boundary travel made easier, she added, with many of them dressing up for a night out. Bars and restaurants, she pointed out, have kept some seats in reserve for walk-in customers since bookings for tables are already full. “We expect about a 50 percent increase tonight – it’s Halloween proper, and it’s a weekend too," Cheung said. "Our merchants are ready, they’ve stocked enough drinks and food for tonight’s celebrations.” Looking ahead, the association wants more hotel, dining and transport package deals to draw visitors into staying longer and spending more. A spokesperson from the North's foreign ministry issued the criticism in a statement, after 11 countries and the European Union (EU) released the joint statement earlier this week reaffirming their commitment to monitoring the North's activities in violation of U.N. Security Council (UNSC) sanctions resolutions. The joint statement also highlighted the findings of the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) on the North's illicit activities and welcomed fresh independent sanctions imposed by the U.S., Australia and the EU over the North's cyberactivities and dispatch of its workers overseas to finance its nuclear weapons and missile programs. Also attending the talks from the North's side were Jong Tong-hak, the North's vice foreign minister, and Jo Chol-su, North Korea's top envoy to Switzerland, among other officials. In a separate dispatch, the KCNA reported that Cassis paid a courtesy call on Jo Yong-won, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, on the same
