The Transport Department has warned that traffic around the Huanggang control point and San Tin Road will be very heavy on Friday night and over the next two nights, as Halloween celebrations and other events in Hong Kong and Kowloon are expected to end around midnight. In a post on its social media page, the department said the Huanggang checkpoint provides dedicated public transport lanes, allowing franchised buses, cross-boundary coaches and green minibuses to travel via San Sham Road directly to the port. It said road markings have been strengthened and the dedicated lanes extended to improve effectiveness. During peak traffic periods, four franchised bus routes heading to the Huanggang port via the San Tin Public Transport Interchange will enter the interchange directly from a junction of the San Tin section of Castle Peak Road helping to divert traffic away from the busy San Tin roundabout. The department said it has instructed public transport operators to reserve sufficient vehicles and manpower, and to increase service frequency according to passenger flow. Its Emergency Transport Co-ordination Centre will monitor traffic conditions around the clock and take appropriate measures as needed, it said. Edited by Tony Sabine
