New York City, New York Jun 9, 2022 (Issuewire.com) - An experienced interventional cardiologist, Dr. Bernardo is the Medical Director of the Peripheral Vascular Laboratory at the MedStar Heart Institute. He also serves as the Director for Peripheral Intervention at the Cardiovascular Research Institute at MedStar Research Institute, Co-Chair for cardiac peripheral vascular diseases, and is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Cardiology at the Medical College of Virginia Campus of Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

A native of the Philippines, Dr. Bernardo attended the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center, and received his medical degree in 1986. Then, he served his residency with the Philippines General Hospital. Upon relocating to the United States, he conducted his residencies in internal medicine at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center and the Medical College of Virginia. He then went on to complete two consecutive fellowships in cardiovascular disease medicine and interventional cardiology at the Medical College of Virginia-VCU.
Distinguished as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease, interventional cardiology, and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Extensively published in his field, he lectures frequently at meetings and conferences, both nationally and internationally. He was the clinical investigator or co-investigator in dozens of trials in the field of cardiology and cardiovascular disease, and is currently involved in a number of ongoing trials and clinical studies.
Cardiology is a branch of medicine that deals with the disorders of the heart, as well as some parts of the circulatory system. The field includes medical diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and electrophysiology. Cardiologists are doctors who diagnose, assess, and treat patients with diseases and defects of the heart and blood vessels (the cardiovascular system).
Speaking multiple languages, Dr. Bernardo is fluent in English, Spanish, French, and Hebrew.
