October 11, 2022 - /PressAdvantage/ - Houston estate planning lawyer Whitney L. Thompson (https://www.wthompsonlaw.com/nursing-home-care-do-you-meet-the-texas-state-medicaid-eligibility-requirements) releases a new article explaining the Medicaid eligibility requirements in Texas. The lawyer mentions that older adults or persons with disabilities usually require long-term care. This can include nursing homes or other assisted living facilities. These facilities can be expensive, so many people turn to Medicaid for help. This is why it is important for families to plan for Medicaid as soon as possible.
According to the Houston estate planning lawyer, “For older adults and persons with physical or intellectual disabilities, long-term care can become expensive. They or their caretakers may not have the means to access nursing homes or extended care, despite their needs. Medicaid helps relieve that burden. It is a state and government program that provides free or low-cost health care services to individuals with needs.”
The lawyer explains that Medicaid eligibility depends on a few factors, including income. In order to qualify for Medicaid, the elderly person must be a resident of Texas, a U.S. citizen, in need of healthcare assistance, and must be low to very low income. They must also be 65 years old or older, blind, or have a disability or a relative in one's household with a disability.
Attorney Whitney L. Thompson adds that there are certain requirements a person must fulfill before they can be eligible for Medicaid. First are the categorical requirements, then the medical necessity requirements, income eligibility, and asset eligibility. In asset eligibility, there is an asset cap for the elderly who is going to enter a nursing home facility. In Texas, the asset cap should be $2,000. If both spouses are entering the facility, the asset cap is at $3,000.
In the article, the lawyer adds “When you plan in advance for long-term care, you can raise the quality of life for yourself or the loved ones you care for while reducing stress. Your best option is to contact a knowledgeable Elder Law Attorney. They can tell you more about the income and asset rules for Medicaid.”
Lastly, the lawyer emphasizes the importance of having a skilled Medicaid planning attorney when dealing with matters involving Medicaid planning. Having an experienced estate attorney may be able to help an individual understand their rights and help them prepare for the future of their loved ones.

A China-led international team has reported a new pre-earthquake phenomenon that has shown strong predictive potential for major earthquakes since 2022 with minimal failures. The anomalous seismic, magnetic and ionospheric resonance signals they observed – termed “seismo-ripples” by the researchers – are ringlike disturbance patterns triggered before earthquakes happen. Their findings challenge the long-standing scientific belief that these events are unpredictable, opening up a promising new...
