Completion of Kukui Solar Project Lowers Costs for Abused Children Shelter

Center is now running on self-sustaining energy

Hawaii’s Kukui Solar Project has officially been completed, offering the shelter for abused children an opportunity to reduce overhead costs by relying on self-sustaining energy.
The Kukui Solar Project’s mission was to install a system of solar panels along the rooftop of the Kukui Center. With these systems in place, the center would be able to produce its own energy and reduce reliance on the grid. The end result would be lower energy costs.
Two systems were ultimately installed as part of the Kukui Solar Project with a total of 365 photovoltaic solar panels. The total output of both systems together is approximately 93.5 kw.
Both of these solar panel systems are now up and running, resulting in a reduction in energy costs for the Kukui Foundation since they are now producing self-sustaining solar energy.
These savings will directly benefit the children and families who the Kukui Center serves.
The entire project was orchestrated by Robert Tweed, a licensed security expert whose focus is in economics. He has worked to develop philanthropic efforts such as the Rusty Tween Drug Free Scholarship and the Rusty Tweed Scholarship. Tweed is excited to be part of the Kukui Solar Project.
Through his philanthropic endeavors, Tweed gives back to communities with supportive funding and measures. For instance, the Rusty Tweed Drug Free Scholarship offers a $1000 essay contest in which one applicant receives a scholarship toward college funds.
