Recycling is more than just feeling good, it’s doing good

Maddington, Australia - July 9, 2019 / / —
Bombsaway Car Body Removals is a recycling centre for materials on vehicles and cars, and is pleased to announce they now can recycle windshield glass. Previously this type of material was unable to be recycled because windshields are comprised of two layers of glass and a layer of plastic in between. Due to recent advances in recycling techniques, the glass and plastic layers can now be sorted from one another adding to the ways in which you can recycle cars.
To separate the three layers, the glass sheets from windshields are passed through a large machine. The machine then crushes the glass into small pieces. This allows the glass to be easily separated from the plastic layer in the middle. The plastic membrane implanted in the windshield is called PVB. What was once a hard and tedious task is now in the last 20 years been made widely possible to recycle tons of windshield.

The glass that is recycled from windshields is broken down and made into tiny pieces. These have many applications and uses in various trades and will not go to waste. The glass can be mixed into concrete mixtures, applied to yellow road paint to make it super reflective, and even used in countertops or flooring materials. Crushed glass is also valuable to the fibreglass industry, used as sporting equipment, insulation in a home, or get a second chance at being on a vehicle.
Glass is a precious material that has many applications across a large variety of industries. It’s a great idea to ensure that it stays where it can be used instead of in a landfill where it simply takes up space.
There are tons of hazardous materials in cars that can leach into the water supply or soil if not carefully disposed of. For example, most vehicles contain within them windscreen wash, coolants, antifreeze, gas, and fuel. Bombs Away are very careful about removing these hazardous liquids and materials by draining and disposing or recycling them ethically.
Recovering gas, antifreeze, transmission, and brake lubricants is a tedious process that requires care but is possible. Batteries that contain lead and sulfuric acid are all harmful and require caution when dispensing of them. Sulfuric acid can be recovered and used to manufacture laundry detergents or fertilisers. Lead in batteries which make up battery plates or inter-cell connectors can be melted down and sold for reuse.
A vehicle is a piece of sophisticated machinery that has a limited history on our planet. But many of the materials in the car can be recycled to keep these toxins from leaking or pulling out of the car over time. When a vehicle is properly recycled, so much of the metal, liquids, and components can be removed or disposed of ethically. It keeps materials out of the rubbish, ensures clean water supply, makes soil that is healthy for growing food, and reduces energy use to make new components from scratch.
