Blackouts Don’t Always End Quickly; 4Patriots Officials Recommend Keeping A Generator Handy

Short power outages are more of an inconvenience than a major problem. But when a blackout lasts several days, as the one in southeastern Michigan did last week, problems develop that only a generator can solve.

Nashville, TN , United States - March 15, 2017 /MarketersMedia/ —

Many power outages last only a few hours, but some can stretch into a day or more. A power outage in southeastern Michigan entered its fourth day last weekend, affecting 1 million customers of DTE Energy, according to Detroit CBS affiliates.

The hardest hit counties were Wayne, Oakland, Macomb and Washtenaw, as gale-force winds pounded the area in what was described by a utility spokesperson as a “once in a century weather event.”

Once a blackout reaches several hours or more, perishable food can begin to spoil and store shelves can start to empty. Homeowners can also lose their heat or air conditioning. Eventually, the supply chain can start to break down, including food supplies.

4Patriots LLC, a Nashville, Tenn.-based company that provides products to help people become more independent and self-reliant, strongly recommends that homeowners prepare for blackouts caused by extreme weather and other factors with a fully-charged, portable, solar-powered generator.

“For the last several years, we’ve been seeing an increase in extreme weather events, and they certainly are not limited to a particular area of the country,” said Allen Baler, Partner at 4Patriots LLC. “It’s happening all over and there does not seem to be any letup.

“We can’t control the weather, but we can control how we prepare for it. Keeping a fully-charged generator at the ready helps people continue to keep electrical items running during these outages, including enough light for safety and comfort, a freezer, toaster oven, coffee maker, cellphone, computer, electric blanket and more.”
