March 19, 2020 - /PressAdvantage/ - Hale County, Ala- With COVID-19 actively flowing through the United States, there is a large concern for the prison population. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) is actively implementing phases to help maintain the health and safety of the prison population as the virus grows. Phase one of the plan is already in place as the BOP is gaining information from the Health Services Division, the Center for Disease Control, the World Health Organization and the White House. Alabama Bail Bonds is a bail bondsman in Hale County highlighting the next steps for prisons.
After meeting with all organizations for their input and to gain a better understanding of the disease the BOP has moved on to phase two of the plans. Effective immediately the following measures are being implemented to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Social visits will be suspended for the next 30 days. After 30 days the suspension will then only be reevaluated. During this time the BOP will allow additional telephone communications. Legal visits will also be suspended for the next 30 days only allowing for case-by-case accommodation if necessary.
Inmate facility transfers, tours, official staff travel, training, contractors’ access, and volunteer visits will also all be suspended for the next 30 days and revisited at the 30-day mark to determine the next steps. Staff will be required to have temperature checks for the next 30 days and the BOP will enhance health screenings for staff members as recommended by the CDC. Any inmate with an asymptomatic exposure risk will be quarantined. Symptomatic inmates that have an exposure risk will be quarantined and tested for COVID-19 per the local health protocols.
