The government said emergency repair works conducted after a water pipe burst in Shau Kei Wan have been completed, with fresh water supply to users in the area returning to normal from 9.30pm on Tuesday. In a social media post, the Water Supplies Department said that because the incident involved a large and complex system of pipes, people living at the ends of the water supply network or at higher elevations may need to wait up to three to four hours before the water reaches them. The department said it would continue to provide water trucks and tanks until the fresh water supply fully returns to normal. It also said it is normal for the water to appear milky or slightly turbid upon supply restoration. Lawmaker Elaine Chik called on the authorities to fully digitalise the city's underground pipeline data to prevent similar incidents from happening. "We suggest that implementing a 'scan-first, backfill-after' rule for all construction projects to build an accurate 3D underground pipeline database for future reference," Chik said.
