Muddy Water Adventures has added a 52-foot landing craft to its fleet, expanding freight and equipment capacity for its Wrangell Alaska water taxi service to surrounding islands and the Stikine River.
Wrangell, United States, October 23, 2026 -- WRANGELL, AK — Muddy Water Adventures, a locally owned marine transportation and tour operator, has announced the addition of a 52-foot landing craft to its fleet. The vessel expands freight and equipment capacity for the company’s Wrangell Alaska water taxi service, which connects Wrangell with surrounding islands, nearby communities, and the Stikine River.
Southeast Alaska is a region where most communities are reached by water or air rather than by road, which makes marine freight a practical necessity for residents, contractors, and seasonal operators. Moving heavy equipment, building materials, and supplies to remote shorelines depends on vessels that can load and unload without a developed dock. The company has not cited a specific third-party statistic for this announcement, and the addition responds to a general logistical need in the region.

A landing craft is a flat-bottomed vessel with a bow ramp that lowers onto a beach or shoreline, allowing vehicles, pallets, and bulky cargo to move on and off directly. The new 52-foot craft gives the company a larger deck area than its existing passenger-oriented boats. It is intended for loads that are difficult to carry on smaller vessels, including equipment for remote worksites, cabin and property supplies, and gear for river and island projects.
The vessel joins a fleet that already includes the 38-foot catamaran Island Cat, which has a drop-bow design, and the 26-foot jetboat Frago, built for shallow river operation. Jetboats such as these remain the company’s primary choice for Stikine River work, where water depth and channel conditions change. The landing craft is expected to handle heavier freight on ocean routes and island landings, while the existing boats continue to serve passengers and lighter cargo, subject to weather, tides, and scheduling.
“Freight requests in this region often involve equipment that simply will not fit on a passenger boat, so we wanted a vessel built for that work,” said Zach Taylor, Owner of Muddy Water Adventures. “The landing craft gives us the deck space and bow ramp to move larger loads to island and river destinations while keeping our other boats available for their regular routes.”
