Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” That quotation perfectly describes ten-year-old Tayo’s approach to learning.
London, United Kingdom Oct 23, 2026 (Issuewire.com) - Home education has given Tayo the opportunity to develop an education built around curiosity, creativity, research and real-world experiences. Rather than simply working through textbooks, his learning encourages him to ask questions, investigate evidence, solve problems, think critically and share what he discovers with others.
Every day brings a new challenge. One day he may be researching world events, the next he may be creating a game in Roblox Studio, studying Ancient Egypt, exploring artificial intelligence, learning Italian, writing educational content, or snorkelling to observe marine life. His education is designed to help him understand not only academic subjects but also the world around him.
Becoming a Young Investigative Journalist
One of Tayo's newest and most exciting projects is Tayo Talks, an investigative journalism series where he reports on important issues taking place around the world.
Every investigation begins with research.
Instead of reading just one article, Tayo compares reports from different countries and news organisations. He learns that different sources often tell the same story in different ways, encouraging him to think critically about what he reads.
Using specially designed Thrive Homeschool Academy investigative journalism worksheets, he plans his research by answering the fundamental questions every journalist should ask:
The worksheet acts as a planning guide rather than the finished assignment. Once his research is complete, Tayo writes a balanced report in his own words before recording a video presentation. The finished episode is then published on YouTube and shared through Thrive Homeschool Academy.
This single project can take 1-2 days to complete. It develops an extraordinary range of skills, including:
Most importantly, it teaches him to think independently and make informed decisions based on evidence rather than simply accepting information at face value.
A Broad and Balanced Education
Tayo follows a broad curriculum that combines traditional academic subjects with practical, project-based learning.
His studies include:
Lessons regularly overlap, allowing him to see how different subjects connect in the real world.
A Passion for History
History has become one of Tayo's favourite subjects.
He has developed a particular fascination with Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt, spending many hours researching how these civilisations shaped the modern world.
His passion led him to study Egyptian history through Sapienza University of Rome, where he successfully completed a course and received a certificate--an outstanding achievement for a ten-year-old learner.
Rather than simply memorising dates, he enjoys understanding why events happened and how they continue to influence the world today.
Learning Languages
Tayo studies Italian as a second language while continuing to strengthen his English reading, grammar, spelling, writing and communication skills.
Learning two languages develops memory, concentration, confidence and problem-solving abilities while opening the door to different cultures and opportunities.
Mathematics
Mathematics plays an important role in his education. Working at GCSE Essential Skills level, he develops logical reasoning, analytical thinking and practical problem-solving skills that can be applied across many different subjects. Which is advanced for his young age.
Coding and Game Design
Technology is another area that fascinates Tayo.
Using Roblox Studio, he is learning to design and build his own games while developing skills in coding, logical thinking, debugging, creativity, animation, digital design, user experience and project management.
Rather than simply playing games, he enjoys understanding how they are created.
Curious About the Future
Artificial intelligence, science and technology are among Tayo's favourite subjects to explore independently.
He often researches AI, robotics, environmental science and new discoveries simply because they interest him. It is common for him to spend time reading or watching educational material before excitedly sharing what he has learned with his family.
His curiosity drives much of his education.
A Love of Reading
Tayo learned to read at four years old.
By the age of seven he was confidently reading chapter books independently. Reading has become one of the foundations of his learning, allowing him to research complex subjects well beyond his age.
Creativity Beyond the Classroom
Learning doesn't end with academic lessons.
Alongside his academic learning, Tayo also spends time developing practical life skills at home. One of his greatest passions is cooking. He has created a growing collection of cooking videos, written his own recipes, and enjoys experimenting with new dishes in the kitchen.
Learning to cook gives Tayo far more than a tasty meal. It helps him build confidence, independence, creativity, and problem-solving skills while strengthening his maths, reading, and organisational abilities. Cooking also teaches responsibility, patience, healthy eating habits, and the importance of planning ahead valuable skills that will benefit him throughout his life.
Tayo enjoys:
These projects strengthen creativity, imagination and communication while making learning enjoyable.
Learn with Tayo
Education has grown into something much bigger than lessons at home.
The Learn with Tayo project includes books, educational videos and interactive learning resources designed to inspire children to become curious learners.
His first book, Learn with Tayo: African Heroes and Legends, introduces children to inspiring figures from African history in an engaging and accessible way.
A second history book is currently being written and will continue the mission of making history exciting for young readers.
Interactive Learning
Learning also continues online through the Learn with Tayo app on the Thrive Homeschool Academy website.
The app includes interactive educational activities designed to help children learn through exploration and play, with more educational resources continually being added.

Giving Back
One of Tayo's proudest achievements came away from the classroom.
Wanting to help children in The Gambia, he organised a GoFundMe fundraising campaign to purchase school supplies.
The campaign provided calculators, rulers, pencils, pens, LCD writing tablets and many other educational resources for children who needed them.
His efforts were recognised internationally and featured in The Standard newspaper in The Gambia, demonstrating that children can make a real difference when they are given the opportunity to help others.

He also has a keen interest in marine life and marine biology. He enjoys snorkelling to observe sea creatures in their natural environment and is looking forward to taking up fishing as another way to learn about aquatic ecosystems and conservation.

Looking Ahead
Tayo's homeschooling journey continues to evolve with every new project.
Whether he is investigating world events, studying history, coding games, learning languages, creating educational resources or helping children in another country, each experience develops new knowledge and practical skills.
His story demonstrates that homeschooling is about far more than learning at home. It is about nurturing curiosity, encouraging independence, building confidence and giving children the freedom to explore their interests in meaningful ways.
At just ten years old, Tayo has already shown that when children are encouraged to ask questions, think critically and follow their passions, there is no limit to what they can achieve.
The goal of Thrive Homeschool Academy has never simply been to educate one child. It is to inspire other families to see that learning can be creative, engaging, purposeful and filled with real-world opportunities. Tayo's journey is just the beginning.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Army has activated an air defense battalion in Guam to bolster the island's defenses against regional missile threats, including those posed by North Korea and China, a U.S. military news outlet reported Friday. The newly activated battalion is expected to operate Patriot, Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and Intermediate Fires Protection Capability (IFPC) systems as part of a layered defense network against ballistic and cruise missiles, aircraft and drones.
